Marit Cooper
I'm a self-taught fine art painter turned freelance illustrator, crafting whimsical picture books that appeal to both young readers and adults. My illustrations combine ink, watercolor, and colored pencil, enhanced with digital tools to achieve a cohesive visual style. Within each artwork, I love weaving quiet subplots, where quirky characters embark on their own mini adventures, adding layers of charm and intrigue to the main narrative. Adventure, kindness, and a sense of wonder are central to my storytelling, resulting in detailed illustrations with a timeless quality that blends traditional techniques with digital refinement.
Though my creative path has been largely self-directed, I've completed coursework through the School of Visual Storytelling, MATS Illustrating Children's Books, and Skillshare. Beyond illustration, I enjoy making animations, which supports the creation of book trailers and animated graphics for web and social media platforms. Based in the UK since 2002, I bring my Swedish heritage into my artistic vision, offering a unique perspective that resonates with diverse audiences.
I find inspiration in the enchanting realms of medieval and renaissance art, the beauty of nature, and the rich tapestry of history. My goal is to infuse each piece with magic and nostalgia, evoking a blend of adventure and comfort that invites viewers into a world where imagination flourishes.
